Polymeric Sports Surfaces

Polymeric Surfaces encompass a range of surface types that have characteristics that make them ideal for play, sports and athletic activities. At Exterus we have been providing  maintenance services for these surfaces for over twenty years.  From wetpour in playgrounds to athletic tracks for international meets, we have cleaned and maintained them all. So if you need any advice or queries relating to maintenance or how we can help, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Maintenance

All Polymeric Surfacing should have regular and operational inspection and maintenance. How often the  frequency of inspection should be will vary with the type of surface used, the nature of it’s use  and other factors such as rates of  use, levels of vandalism, location, air pollution, age of equipment and other local environmental factors. If the surface is discovered to be unsafe during inspection, it should be secured against further use.

Litter, leaves and surface debris should be regularly removed either by sweeping or using a leaf blower and surfaces should be inspected for moss and damage. Loose rubber granules should be removed or blown off as failure to remove can result in accelerated wearing of the surface.

Moss and Algae can accumulate quickly on surfaces if not dealt with in a timely manner, leading to issues of traction, fall and slips and discolouration of the substrate. A regular preventative treatment for moss and algae growth can be helpful in maintaining the surface. It is recommended that the pitch is treated with Algoclear Pro to eradicate algae, moss and mould every 6 months.

Over time the porosity of polymeric and wetpour surfaces will decrease due to ingrained dirt and pollution. This can lead to drainage issues and visually may look unpleasant. Cleaning of the surface with appropriate specialist equipment is then recommended to restore porosity and appearance and restore the playing characteristics of the surface.

We specialise in the setting out and line-marking of polymeric surfaces including athletics tracks, MUGAs or playgrounds. The highest degree of accuracy and overall quality demanded on these surfaces ensures the standard of our work is second to none. We can personalise your surfaces using this same high standard which is evident on all projects we undertake, from Multi Use Games Areas (M.U.G.A’s) to synthetic grass pitches. We never compromise on finish or quality.

Whilst having longevity and robustness, polymeric surfaces may occasionally need repairs due to premature failure, substrate shrinkage, vandalism, local environmental factors or just plain old neglect. Exterus have experience in providing patch repairs and larger area replacement across a range of wetpour and polymeric surfaces.
